The St. Louis dropped a divisional game to the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 4-3 on Monday night.  The Cardinals just couldn’t get over the hump after giving up four early runs to the Reds.  The Cardinals left 16 guys on base and Chris Duncan left five of them on base himself.

Todd Wellemeyer gave up seven hits and four earned runs over six innings as he took the loss for the Cardinals.  Wellemeyer didn’t pitch that bad, there just wan’t much offense to back up his pitching performance.

Randy Flores, Russ Springer, and Ryan Franklin pitched the final three innings of the game.  Flores gave up three hits and Franklin gave up one hit.  Good job by the three pitchers as they did not allow any runs to score.

Rick Ankiel led the Cardinals at the plate with a solo home run in the fifth inning.  Troy Glaus and Cesar Izturis both had an RBI as well.  Izturis was making his return after taking some games off with a bruised arm.

The Cardinals are now one full game behind the Chicago Cubs in the Central Division.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday by a score of 4-3 putting the Cardinals at 13-7 for the year.  Going into the 9th inning tied it was the Cardinals who were able to get the run in when Skip Schumaker doubled to right center and scored Brian Barton for the game winning run.

Adam Wainwright was the opening pitcher for the Cardinals on Monday pitching seven innings  and giving up only four hits, two runs, and four walks.  Ryan Franklin came in to pitch for 1 innings and picked up his first win of the season putting him at 1-1.  Jason Isringhausen was brought it to pitch the last inning and got his seventh save of the year.

Troy Glaus had a pair of RBIs with Adam Kennedy and Schumaker each getting a RBI in the game as well.

The Cardinals will face off against the Brewers again tonight in Milwaukee for the last game of this series.

The St. Louis Cardinals were able to get a few hits but not enough runs to win the game on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants  as they lost 8-2.  The loss puts the Cardinals at 12-7 for the season.

Braden Looper took the mound to start off the night for the Cardinals allowing a staggering 10 hits and 7 runs in his three innings pitched.  Anthony Reyes and Ron Villone were each brought in to pitch three innings and Reyes gave up one more earned run.  Villone did a great job as he did not allow a hit in his three innings of action.

Troy Glaus as well as Rico Washington each picked up RBI’s on doubles in the ninth inning.  The bats really let the Cardinals down today and they will need to swing the bat better as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.

The Cardinals after a 2 game losing streak head to Milwaukee to battle the Brewers
for the National League Central number 2 spot on Monday night.

The St. Louis Cardinals had a 3-0 lead heading into the eigth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers, but the Brewers tied the game up with a Prince Fielder double in the eigth inning and then a home run by Fielder in the 10th inning won it for the Brewers 5-3.

Brad Thompson took the lose as he served up the Fielder home run in the 10th inning.  Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse pitched sevin innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs.  Ryan Franklin had a hard time as he gave up one earned run and only recorded one out.

Ryan Ludwick hit a home run for the Cardinals and Lohse had an two-run single but that was really all the Cardinals could get in the game.  Rick Ankiel left six men on base and Troy Glaus left four men on base.  Not very productive in the middle of the order today.

Playing their first road game of the year, the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the San Francisco Giants by the score of 5-1.  It is really suprising that the Cardinals only scored one run off the Giants pitching staff who usually struggles.  It is also suprising the Cardinals gave up five runs to the Giants offense.

Adam Wainwright picked up the loss for the Cardinals and his record is now 1-1 on the season.  He did pitch seven innings but he allowed four earned runs and let the Giants score in multiple innings.  It wasn’t like it was just one bad inning, the Giants just kept putting preasure on him the entire game.

Ron Villone got one inning of action and allowed an un-earned run score in the game as well.

The only offense the Cardinals had was in the 9th inning when Troy Glaus doubled and score Albert Pujols.  Other then that, the Cardinals bats were dead.

Albert Pujols brough his big bats to the game against the Houston Astros on Wednesday night and he used them to hit two homeruns, and also a RBI single as they Cardinals went onto beat the Astros 6-4.  Pujoles who had got into a heated argument with Astros pitcher Bradon Backe about Pujols slide in Tuesday’s night game, said he played with some emotion, but that wasn’t why he hit better.  He says video tapes and making a few adjustments helped him out.

Rick Ankiel had two RBI’s for the Cardinals and Troy Glaus chipped in one.  Nice night for the big three hitters in the Cardinals lineup.

Braden Looper got the win for the Cardinals as he moves to 2-0 on the season.  Looper pitched 5.2 innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs.  Randy Flores gave up an unearned run in the 7th inning as well.

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Houston Astros on Tuesday night by the score of 5-3.  The game was tied at 3-3 in the 8th inning when Troy Glaus doubled and scored Chris Duncan and Albert Pujols.  The Cardinals record now stands at 6-2 on the young season.

Besides Glaus two RBI’s, Duncan, Adam Kennedy, and Brad Thompson all had one RBI.

Anthony Reyes picked up the win for the Cardinals as he pitched in relief of starting pitcher Brad Thompson.  Thompson pitched four innings but did give up three earned runs.

The St. Louis Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game, but quickly lost the game on a Miguel Tejada homerun in the bottom half of the inning.  Kyle McClellan picked up the lose after serving up the game winning homerun.

The Cardinals didn’t do anyting all game long until the top of the 9th inning when Troy Glaus singled in Aaron Miles, and then Ryan Ludwick doubled that scored Cesar Izturis and Glaus.

Todd Wellemeyer started the game for the Cardinals and didn’t pitch too bad.  He lasted seven innings and only allowed two earned runs in the no decision.  Kelvin Jimenez pitched the eight inning and allowed one earned run.  And we already know what happened to McClellan when he pitched in the ninth inning.

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Colorado Rockies on Thursday by the score of 3-0.  Another great job by the pitching staff and some timely hitting my Rick Ankiel and company proved to be to much for the Rockies.

Albert Pujols batter. 500, and Ankiel .364 on the opening series to really help at the plate.  If Pujols, Ankiel, and Troy Glaus can hit the ball good this season I like the Cardinals chances in the Central Division.

Brad Thompson pitched 6.2 innings on Thursday as he gave up six hits and zero runs.  Great performance today by Mr. Thompson.  The bullpen also did a good job and Jason Isringhausen picked up his first save of the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Toronto Blue Jays swapped third basemen today as Scott Rolen was traded for Troy Glaus.  Rolen has been in the doghouse for a while now with Tony LaRussa so everyone knew that he was going to be dealt during the offseason.

For the trade to be agreed upon, Glaus had to exercise his player option for 2009 at 11.25 million, and both players were required to drop their no trade clauses in their contracts.

Troy Glaus has been injured lately, but when healthy he can put up some pretty good numbers.  His name was mentioned in the Mitchell Report however, but I don’t think that will have any affect on his gameplay in 2008.  Cardinal fans should all hope Glaus stays healthy and has a monster year in 08 whch I think he will.

The bottom line here, the Cardinals made a great trade today, and it will show in 2008!
