The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a must win on Wednesday night when they rallied with four runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3. The win was crucial for the Cardinals as they are now 3.5 games behind the Brewers for the wild card position.

Ryan Ludwick had a solo home run and a rbi double to lead the Cardinals with two rbi. The dramatic eighth inning saw Ludwick get this started with the rbi double which was then followed by a rbi single from Troy Glaus. Glaus then came around to score on an Aaron Miles fielders choice to shortstop. To add a little insurance, Felipe Lopez singled to center field and Miles came around to score the fifth and final run for the Cardinals.

On the mound it was Ryan Franklin getting the win as he pitched the eighth inning. Franklin is now 5-5 on the year. Chris Perez pitched the ninth inning and earned his sixth save of the season. Cardinals starting pitcher, Adam Wainwright tossed six innings and gave up eight hits and three runs to get the no decision.

The Cardinals are now off on Thursday and will start up a weekend series with the Houston Astros on Friday.

The St. Louis Cardinals finished up a two game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates in old fashioned butt kicking style. The Cardinals evened the short series with an 11-2 victory on Wednesday night when they scored in five out out of the eight innings that they batted in. The win was big for the Cardinals as the Cubs lost and they are now 7.5 games out in the division.

Rick Ankiel and Jason LaRue both hit two run home runs to lead the Cardinals at the plate. LaRue finished the game with a team high three rbi while Ankiel and Albert Pujols were right behind him with two rbi each. Pujols rbi’s came on a groundout and a double. Skip Schumaker, Ryan Ludwick, Troy Glaus, and starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer all chipped in with one rbi each as well.

Wellemeyer got another victory as he pitched five innings. He improved his record to 11-4 as he gave up five hits and one run. Russ Springer, Jaime Garcia, Ryan Franklin, and Chris Perez all seen action out of the bullpen for the Cardinals.

Todd Wellemeyer tossed a great game as the St. Louis Cardinals shutout the Florida Marlins on Thursday night by the score of 3-0. It was a big win for the Cardinals as the Brewers lost and the Cubs won. With the victory they also took three out of four games against the Marlins which is always nice to do.

Wellemeyer didn’t give the fish many opportunities to knock in any runs as he limited them to only three hits in 7 2/3 innings. Todd is now 10-4 on the season after getting the victory. Ryan Franklin pitched the ninth inning and gave up one hit before picking up ithe save.

Ryan Ludwick had all three rbi for the Cards as he had a rbi double that scored Cesar Izturis and then a two run home run that also scored Izturis. Ludwick now has 30 home runs on the season and 90 rbi.

The Cards will now fly to Cincinnati to play a weekend series with the Reds. I expect the Cardinals to have a lot of success against the struggling Reds.

The St. Louis Cardinals scored five runs in the ninth inning as they went on to beat the Atlanta Braves 8-3 on Tuesday night. It was awesome to see the late inning scoring that really pushed the game out of reach for the Braves. It was also a big win for the Cardinals as they kept pace with the Chicago Cubs and picked up a game on the Milwaukee Brewers in the standings.

Ryan Franklin picked up the win as he pitched in relief. Franklin pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Cardinals and did not allow a run in either inning. Todd Wellemeyer started the game and pitched the first six innings of the game while giving up eight hits and just two runs. It was a good quality start for Wellemeyer that is for sure. Kyle McClellan pitched a scoreless ninth inning and gave up one run but it didn’t really matter at that point.

Albert Pujols hit his 21st home run as he went deep in the eighth inning. Yadier Molina led the team with two rbi while Nick Stavinoha, Troy Glaus, Brendan Ryan, Cesar Izturis, and Pujols all finished the game with one rbi.

Ryan Franklin once again gave up a home run in the 9th inning and the St. Louis Cardinals lost. On Thursday night, Ryan Braun hit a two run home run to put the Brewers up by one and they went on to beat the Cardinals 4-3. The Cardinals were swept in the four game series against the Brewers. It was definitely not the way the Cards wanted to play that is for sure.

Franklin took the loss and is now 3-4. Cardinals starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer threw the first five innings of the game while giving up five hits and two runs. Wellemeyer had some control issues as he gave up five walks and only struck out two batters.

Rick Ankiel had a rbi single in the first inning and then Albert Pujols had a rbi sac fly in the third inning. The Cardinals third run of the game came in the fourth inning when Wellemeyer single to deep right and Ryan Ludwick scored on an error by Corey Hart.

So now the Cardinals are four games behind the league leading Chicago Cubs and three games behind the MIlwaukee Brewers. They need to get back on track before they find themselves down six or seven games after this weekend. Cardinals Baseball Blog

In the opening of a big four game series, the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 in 10 innings of action. The Cardinals were down 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning but the tied the game up to extend it into extra innings. However in the 11th inning, it was all about the Brewers as they pushed across three runs to take the victory.

Skip Schumaker had a rbi single in the 9th inning to tie the game for the Cardinals. The other two runs for the Cardinals came in the first inning when Troy Glaus doubled and Albert Pujols and Rick Ankiel both scored. That was it for the Cardinals at the plate as they just couldn’t push across many runs in the game.

Ryan Franklin gave up all three runs in the 11th inning to take the loss. Franklin gave up a home run to Bill Hall as the Brewers scored their first run in the inning. Jason Kendall then scored on a error by Aaron Miles and then J.J. Hardy singled to score Rickie Weeks. Earlier in the game Weeks hit a three run shot off of Joel Pineiro. Pineiro threw the first six innings but gave up ten hits and the three runs to get the no decesion.

The series is a big one but the Cards can’t get stressed out over one game. Just come right back out there on Tuesday and try to even up the series.

The St. Louis Cardinals kicked off their three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 win. It was a very good quality win for the Cardinals as they shut out the potent Phillies offense to improve to 51-40 on the season.

Rick Ankiel smashed a solo home run in the fifth inning and than Ryan Ludwick added a solo shot in the sixth inning for the Cardinals. Those two runs were their only runs for the game. It was a good thing that the offense threw the ball as well as they did.

Joel Pineiro tossed the first 6 1/3 innings of the game to get the win. Pineiro improved his season record to 3-4. Pineiro allowed five hits but zero runs while walking three and striking out three. Ron Villone recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning after Pineiro left the game. Kyle McClellan tossed the eighth inning without allowing a hit and then Ryan Franklin closed out the game in the ninth inning to record his 12th save of the season.

It was a huge win for the Cardinals as they try to keep pace with the Chicago Cubs. I have to wonder if the Cardinals will try to make a big move after the Brewers traded for CC Sabathia and the Cubs just traded for Rich Harden. What will the Cardinals do?

The Cardinals took an 4-0 lead in the first inning of Wednesday’s game against the Mets. New York starter Pedro Martinez struggled, and the Cardinals sluggers looked as if they had his number.

Aaron Miles and Skip Schumaker both singled to set the table for the Cardinals in the top of the first, Schumaker would score on Rick Ankiel’s single to center. Also in the first, Troy Glaus hit his 12th homerun of the season to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. The game was stopped for rain in the third and play resumed 47 minute later. Martinez did return to the mound; but seemed to be pitching better and more aggressively than he did in early innings. After the runs he gave up in the first, the only other run he allowed was homer to Rick Ankiel, giving the Cardinals a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning.

Joel Pineiro started the game for the Cardinals. He pitched 5 innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits, while striking out four and walking just one. The Cardinal’s bullpen had some trouble as Kyle McClellan gave up one earned run in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Mark Mulder allowed an inherited run to score as well as two earned runs in his 1/3 inning of work. However, Springer, Perez and Franklin kept the Mets in check with Ryan Franklin getting the win. After the Mets took the lead 7-5 in the top of the seventh, Aaron Heilman entered the game in the bottom of the eighth and hit Ryan Ludwick with a pitch, Pedro Feliciano would come into the game and threw just one pitch to Chris Duncan that he sent over the fence in right field to tie the game at 7. In the bottom of the ninth, it was Troy Glaus’s walk off homer that won the game for the Cardinals 8-7.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Mitchell Boggs will pitch for the Cardinals and the Mets will counter with Mike Pelfrey

The St. Louis Cardinals lost a very dissapointing game on Thursday afternoon to the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers tied up the game in the bottom of the ninth inning and then scored the winning run on a bases loaded walk to get the 3-2 victory.

Mike Parisi gave up one hit and three walks in the 10th inning as he took the loss for the Cardinals. Pariso just didn’t get the job done and wasn’t able to get the game into the 11th inning like he was expected to do. Gary Sheffield took Ryan Franklin deep for a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game and send it in to extra innings.

Cardinals starting pitcher Todd Wellemeyer lasted five innings. Wellemeyer gave up four hits in the game to get the no decision. Ron Villone did give up one run as he pitched after Wellemyer was taken out of the game. Jason Isringhausen did a good job as he threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Hopefully Izzy keeps on throwing the ball good.

The loss really purt a damper on the day that Albert Pujols returned to go 4-4 with one rbi. Pujols and a great day at the plate in his first game since coming of the disabled list. Brendan Ryan scored the Cardinals first run in the seventh inning as he scored on a Aaron Miles double and an error by the Tigers second basemen who made a bad throw to third base.

Now the Cardinals will have a three game series against the Kansas City Royals. The Royals and Cardinals usually play some good games so who knows what will happen this weekend.

The St. Louis Cardinals doubled up the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night as the Cardinals defeated the Tigers 8-4. It was a good win on the road for the Cardinals as they began a three game series against the Tigers. Cardinals just need to keep on winning and I think good things will happen.

Braden Looper pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. Looper pitched well enough though to pick up the win and improve his record to 9-5 on the season. Russ Springer, Kyle McClellan, and Ryan Franklin all pitched a scoreless inning of relief without giving up a run. The bullpen did a great job on the night!

Brian Barton, Skip Schumaker, and Brendan Ryan all had two rbi each in the game to lead the Cardinals at the plate. Barton did have a solo home run for the biggest hit. Nick Stavinoha and Adam Kennedy both had one rbi each in the game as well.

The Cardinals will try to go up 2-0 in the three game series on Wednesday.
