If the St. Louis Cardinals keep playing like this, there is no way they will make it into the post season. The Cardinals gave up a one run lead in the ninth inning and went onto lose to the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 4-3.

Relief pitcher Chris Perez gave up three hits and two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take the loss and drop his record to 2-2. It was the third blown save for Perez as well. Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Lohse lasted six innings and only gave up five hits and zero runs. It is too bad that Lohse couldn’t have stayed in the game longer. Kyle McClellan gave up two runs in the seventh inning as the D-backs started their comeback.

Troy Glaus had two rbi’s for the team as he hit a two run home run in the third inning. Lohse then added the teams third rbi with a rbi double in the sixth inning. There just wasn’t a lot of offense going around for the Cardinals on Wednesday night.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to play good baseball as they beat the Atlanta Braves for the third straight game. On Wednesday night it was a 7-2 victory for the Cardinals and they have now won the first three games of the four game series against the Braves.

Chris Carpenter made is return and pitched the first four innings for the Red Birds. Carpenter allowed five hits and one run before being taken out of the game. Brad Thompson then tossed the next 2 2/3 innings and gave up three hits and one run. After that, Russ Springer, Kyle McClellan, and Ron Villone finished things up without giving up a run.

Joe Mather led the Cards at the plate with two rbi with came on a two run home run in the eighth inning. Cesar Izturis, Adam Kennedy, Ryan Ludwick, Troy Glaus, and Albert Pujols all added a rbi in the game as well.

The Cardinals will now be going for the four game sweep against the Braves on Thursday. I will not be around to blog about it however as I will be out of town until August 12 as I attend a conference out of town. If there is possibly a Cardinals fan out there that would like to give a try at blogging and writing some game recaps please email by clicking the contact us link at the top!

Thanks

The St. Louis Cardinals scored five runs in the ninth inning as they went on to beat the Atlanta Braves 8-3 on Tuesday night. It was awesome to see the late inning scoring that really pushed the game out of reach for the Braves. It was also a big win for the Cardinals as they kept pace with the Chicago Cubs and picked up a game on the Milwaukee Brewers in the standings.

Ryan Franklin picked up the win as he pitched in relief. Franklin pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Cardinals and did not allow a run in either inning. Todd Wellemeyer started the game and pitched the first six innings of the game while giving up eight hits and just two runs. It was a good quality start for Wellemeyer that is for sure. Kyle McClellan pitched a scoreless ninth inning and gave up one run but it didn’t really matter at that point.

Albert Pujols hit his 21st home run as he went deep in the eighth inning. Yadier Molina led the team with two rbi while Nick Stavinoha, Troy Glaus, Brendan Ryan, Cesar Izturis, and Pujols all finished the game with one rbi.

The St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Chicago Cubs for the second straight night as they lost 4-3 on Tuesday night. Once again the game came right down to the end and once again the Cards were on the losing end of the game. Not the way the Cardinals were hoping to play especially at home in such a big series.

Kyle McClellan gave up the game winning home run to Bill Hall in the top of the 9th inning and took the loss. McClellan is now 2-5 on the season as he just hasn’t pitched that good. Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse tossed the first seven innings of the game as he got the no decision. Lohse allowed seven hits and three runs in the game while striking out seven batters. It’s just too bad that Lohse and McClellan couldn’t hold the Brew Crew down to pull out the victory.

Ryan Ludwick, Yadier Molina, and Rick Ankiel all had one rbi each for the Cardinals. Ludwick got the Cardinals scoring started in the first inning with a solo home run and then Ankiel added a rbi single to make it 2-0 after the first inning. Molina added a rbi double in the third inning but that was all the scoring the Cardinals would get.

So will the Birds win on Wenesday as they face off against the Brewers once again? Leave us a comment!

The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies were tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning but then Ryan Howard and Pedro Feliz both hit solo home runs and the Phillies went onto beat the Cardinals 4-2. You have to put that loss right on the bullpen as they simply didn’t do their job.

Kyle McClellan gave up the first home run in the 8th inning to Howard and then Feliz went deep off of Chris Perez. McClellan ended up getting the loss on the game and is now on the season.

Cardinals starting pitcher Mark Mulder only recorded one out in the game before leaving the game with some shoulder discomfirt. It is unknown right now how bad it is but I wouldn’t expect to hear good news.

With Mulder leaving the game so early, the bullpen had their work cut out for them and they did a good job up until that eighth inning. Brad Thompson gave up two runs in 4 1/3 innings and that was all the runs the Phillies would get off the bullpen until that eighth inning. Russ Springer and Jason Isringhausen both pitched good out of the bullpen.

Albert Pujols had a rbi sac fly in the seventh inning and then Troy Glaus added a rbi single right after that. Those were the only two runs that the Cardinals would get in the game as they just couldn’t come up with the big hit in the ninth inning when they had a runners on first and second.

The St. Louis Cardinals kicked off their three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday evening with a 2-0 win. It was a very good quality win for the Cardinals as they shut out the potent Phillies offense to improve to 51-40 on the season.

Rick Ankiel smashed a solo home run in the fifth inning and than Ryan Ludwick added a solo shot in the sixth inning for the Cardinals. Those two runs were their only runs for the game. It was a good thing that the offense threw the ball as well as they did.

Joel Pineiro tossed the first 6 1/3 innings of the game to get the win. Pineiro improved his season record to 3-4. Pineiro allowed five hits but zero runs while walking three and striking out three. Ron Villone recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning after Pineiro left the game. Kyle McClellan tossed the eighth inning without allowing a hit and then Ryan Franklin closed out the game in the ninth inning to record his 12th save of the season.

It was a huge win for the Cardinals as they try to keep pace with the Chicago Cubs. I have to wonder if the Cardinals will try to make a big move after the Brewers traded for CC Sabathia and the Cubs just traded for Rich Harden. What will the Cardinals do?

The Cardinals took an 4-0 lead in the first inning of Wednesday’s game against the Mets. New York starter Pedro Martinez struggled, and the Cardinals sluggers looked as if they had his number.

Aaron Miles and Skip Schumaker both singled to set the table for the Cardinals in the top of the first, Schumaker would score on Rick Ankiel‘s single to center. Also in the first, Troy Glaus hit his 12th homerun of the season to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. The game was stopped for rain in the third and play resumed 47 minute later. Martinez did return to the mound; but seemed to be pitching better and more aggressively than he did in early innings. After the runs he gave up in the first, the only other run he allowed was homer to Rick Ankiel, giving the Cardinals a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning.

Joel Pineiro started the game for the Cardinals. He pitched 5 innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits, while striking out four and walking just one. The Cardinal’s bullpen had some trouble as Kyle McClellan gave up one earned run in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Mark Mulder allowed an inherited run to score as well as two earned runs in his 1/3 inning of work. However, Springer, Perez and Franklin kept the Mets in check with Ryan Franklin getting the win. After the Mets took the lead 7-5 in the top of the seventh, Aaron Heilman entered the game in the bottom of the eighth and hit Ryan Ludwick with a pitch, Pedro Feliciano would come into the game and threw just one pitch to Chris Duncan that he sent over the fence in right field to tie the game at 7. In the bottom of the ninth, it was Troy Glaus‘s walk off homer that won the game for the Cardinals 8-7.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Mitchell Boggs will pitch for the Cardinals and the Mets will counter with Mike Pelfrey

The St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers sat through a 2.5 hour rain delay on Wednesday night and then the Cardinals ended up losing 8-7. The Cardinals bullpen just didn’t throw the ball good as they gave up single runs in the final three innings of the game. The loss hurt that much more because the Chicago Cubs won and now the Cardinals are 4.5 games back in the division.

Kyle McClellan gave up the game winning hit to Gary Sheffield in the bottom of the ninth inning and took the loss. McClellan is now 0-3 on the season. Jason Isringhausen and Randy Flores were both charged with giving up runs as well. Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Lohse pitched the first four innings of the game and gave up 11 hits and five runs. Chris Perez pitched the fift and sixth inning and did a very good job.

Rick Ankiel belted two home runs to lead the Cardinals at the plate with three rbi. Ankiel now has 14 home runs on the season and 35 rbi. Skip Schumaker also added a solo home run for the Cardinals. Aaron Miles and Yadier Molina both contributed with one rbi each.

In the end, the bullpen let the team down and that was the reason they lost this game. The Cardinals and Tigers will turn right back around and play again Thursday as Todd Wellemeyer will take the mound for the Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals doubled up the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night as the Cardinals defeated the Tigers 8-4. It was a good win on the road for the Cardinals as they began a three game series against the Tigers. Cardinals just need to keep on winning and I think good things will happen.

Braden Looper pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. Looper pitched well enough though to pick up the win and improve his record to 9-5 on the season. Russ Springer, Kyle McClellan, and Ryan Franklin all pitched a scoreless inning of relief without giving up a run. The bullpen did a great job on the night!

Brian Barton, Skip Schumaker, and Brendan Ryan all had two rbi each in the game to lead the Cardinals at the plate. Barton did have a solo home run for the biggest hit. Nick Stavinoha and Adam Kennedy both had one rbi each in the game as well.

The Cardinals will try to go up 2-0 in the three game series on Wednesday.

Talk about a bad way to lose a baseball game. The St. Louis Cardinals had just tied up the game in the top of the ninth inning, and then took the lead in the top of the 10th inning, but ended up giving up a two run walk off home run and lost to the game to the Washingtion Nationals 10-9.

Ryan Franklin gave up a two run home run to Elijah Dukes in the bottom of the 10th inning. Franklin took the loss and is now 2-2 on the season. Franklin simply didn’t get his job done. Mike Parisi the Cardinals starting pitcher pitched terrible as he only lasted four innings after giving up ten hits and eight runs.

Mark Worrell, Kyle McClellan, Ron Villone, and Randy Flores all pitched alteast one inning after Parisi left the game and before Franklin blew the game. All four of those relief pitchers did a great job of not giving up any more runs to the Nationals.

Worrell actually led the Cardinals at the plate with three rbi as he hit a three run home run in the sixth inning. Troy Glaus and Joe Mather both hit solo home runs. Mather’s home run was what put the Cardinals ahead by one in the top of the tenth inning. Parisi had two rbi while Skip Schumaker and Aaron Miles finished with one rbi each.

Tough way to split a double header. Hopefully the Cardinals will get a decent nights of sleep so they can come out and play good against the Houston Astros on Friday.
