The home of the St. Louis Cardinals is Busch Stadium . This modern stadium opened in April of 2006. Until the economic crisis arrived on the scene, there were plans to build a ballpark village next to it. The land has been cleared and sometime in the future, the village will be built. I have now been to all three ballparks in Cardinal history. This one is the best to date. Busch Stadium seats 46,000 fans per game. However, there is plenty of standing room only for games.

Albert Pujols swung at the first pitch he saw of spring training, his job with the St. Louis Cardinals in absolutely no jeopardy. Matt Dominguez doesn't have that luxury with the Florida Marlins. Trying to win a spot on the Marlins' major league roster, Dominguez hit a two-run homer in his first plate appearance as Florida opened its formal spring training schedule Monday with a 6-3 win over…

The Cincinnati Reds made a late surge to doom the St. Louis Cardinals from making the playoffs in 2010. Not so this year. Even with a season-ending injury to ace pitcher Adam Wainwright, the Cardinals can still be a force to be reckoned with. I've been a Cardinals' fan my whole life growing up near St. Louis. This year will be one to remember despite the injury and talk of the best player in baseball possibly leaving after the 2011 season. Consider the one-two-three punch of Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman and Albert Pujols in the batting order.

For those of us St. Louis Cardinals fans who were hoping for more dominating pitching in the 2011 season, Adam Wainwright's season-ending elbow injury has diminished that possibility. But there are still bright spots on the roster. We still have Chris Carpenter as an experienced pitcher. Even though he's almost 36 and probably past his prime, Carpenter is a Cy Young Award winner. He can help with any up and coming talent who might land a spot in the starting rotation after Wainwright's bum elbow.

St. Louis manager Tony La Russa wasn't looking at execution as much as he wanted to judge attitude during the Cardinals' first controlled scrimmage of the spring. While the mock game didn't feature any player expected to be in the opening day lineup, those vying to replace injured utility infielder Nick Punto were all on the field.

Kyle McClellan says he is ready to become the fifth starter in the St. Louis rotation and maybe he's the favorite. Manager Tony La Russa isn't ready to make that decision yet. "The overriding part is that we want to have an effective starting rotation and an effective bullpen," La Russa said Friday.

The Dodgers can't really afford to lose pitchers before the season even begins. This injury is not like the St. Louis Cardinals losing Adam Wainwright for the season, but it will cause the team to do some shuffling of the pitching staff. Vicente Padilla wasn't going to be the Opening Day starter this season, but he was a veteran pitcher that the Blue Crew could have used in the bullpen or as a replacement starter. Now, Padilla is having surgery on his forearm to deal with nerve issues that have bothered him for some time.

Adam Wainwright's season is over before it started. The St. Louis Cardinals ace learned Thursday that he will need surgery to replace a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow, an injury that usually take at least a year to recover from. "That's a big guy to miss," teammate Kyle Lohse said in Jupiter, Fla.
