Carpenter (16-9) snapped a four-game losing streak — during which he posted a 7.17 ERA — with the four-hitter. "I feel like I've gotten stronger and stronger as the year has gone on," Carpenter said.

Hawksworth had come in for starter Chris Carpenter in the fifth inning Saturday and was facing his second batter when Fuld's liner hit him in the face and Hawksworth fell to the ground.
